Overview

The Material

Launched in 2007, Eastman Tritan™ is a new generation copolyester that offers high performance properties, including: clarity, colorability, durability, ease of processing, and heat and chemical resistance. Tritan provides superior performance and design flexibility compared to other clear thermoplastics like polycarbonate (PC), styrene acrylonitrile (SAN), and acrylics. Tritain is free of bisphenol A (BPA), and has been used in consumer electronics, large appliances, durables and food-ware, medical devices, and packaging.

Tritian’s ease of processing supports the production of intricate shapes and patterns through injection molding. In many applications it can be used in an existing molder with some modification. Tritan often results in shorter cycle times and fewer manufacturing stages, and is also available in a high-flow product ideal for long flow runs and intricate detail.

Introduced to the medical market in 2009, medical grades of Eastman Tritan™ copolyester additionally provide outstanding lipid and chemical resistance and are free of BPA, orthophthalate plasticizers, and halogens, while still offering excellent durability, heat resistance, and ease of processing. Tritan copolyesters provide solutions for medical device and package challenges that have not been met by traditional polymers available to the medical industry. Examples of medical grade applications range from liquid resistant surfaces for patient safety to a material that allows for branding and labeling to indicates fill levels.
