Square Beans Bowl

Traditional Japanese bowl made with Eastman Tritan™ copolyester

Kunimune, a Japanese injection molding company

One of Kunimune’s latest products was the “Square Beans Bowl.” In Japanese, “bean bowl” means mini plates. Usually round in shape, Kunimune, decided to make their newest bowls square, stackable, and available in two different materials (plastic and steel).

Japanese consumers look for bowls that are hard to break, scratch resistant, and capable of being washed under hot water or in the dishwasher, while remaining beautiful.

Eastman Tritan™ copolyester was chosen for Kuinimune’s new bowls. “Tritan™ has a glass-like weight and glossy, high-end appearance compared to other clear resins,” explained Mr. Masahiko Yamamoto, General Manager of Kunimune, “this gave the product a luxurious image.” Additionally, “the processing ability during molding is very good, easy to use and capable of molding products with flexible design of uneven thickness up to 4.00 mm. It also has good heat resistance making the product difficult to deform,” Yamamoto added.

The versatile bowls come in a palette of fun colors: “Baby Chick,” “Seaweed”, and “Silver Mouse”. It is a part of the Japanese culture to enjoy food with your “eyes”, in addition to enjoying taste. Having the combination of color and texture of the bowls with food, consumers can enjoy a luxurious experience under a new simple lifestyle.
